Are Diet Pills Safe?

You might not like to hear it, but humans are generally lazy. Although you may have a To-Do List a mile long and are running around like crazy to keep up with your family life, your social engagements, and your office work, if you could take the easy road out, you probably would, wouldn’t you?

If we could find a miracle solution that will help you build the perfect body, or stay looking young for years, or to simply give us the extra energy to get everything done in the day, then we’d pounce on it in a heartbeat. It is for this reason that billions of dollars are spent each year on diet pills and similar products, and countless consumers hope to find in that golden needle in a haystack of trial offers, commercials, and outright lies.

However, just because a diet pill claims to be all-natural or clinically proven or specially formulated to help you lose weight, doesn’t mean it will do so safely. Although many products can, in fact, help you reach your weight loss goals in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise, more often than not, these same diet pills will leave you reeling with side-effects and wondering where your hard-earned cash keeps disappearing to.

As much as we’d like to take the easy way out, sometimes the benefits simply aren’t worth the risk.

Types of Diet Pills and Their Risks

Whether you pick and choose which type of effects you’d like to experience or would prefer to find a pill that “does it all,” different type of diet pills pose varying degrees of risks and side-effects. The key to finding a good pill is to be certain that the ingredients are safe, that they’re in their clinically proven amounts, and that the side-effects are kept to a minimum.

The following are the main types of diet pills you may stumble across while searching for that quick fix for shedding stubborn pounds.

Energy Boosters: Energy boosters are designed to increase your metabolism, so you can theoretically burn more calories than you consume. In order to achieve this, many diet pills rely on the use of caffeine, synephrine, or similar stimulants to interact with the body’s central nervous system to trigger a “fight or flight” response.

Unfortunately, these ingredients often result in the miserable “crash” at the finish line as the diet pill wears off during the day. Additionally, common side-effects include headaches, dizziness, increased heart rate, nausea and jitters.

Fat Blockers: If you’re struggling to keep to a healthy diet and just can’t help but indulge on occasion, then a Fat blocker will supposedly inhibit the body’s ability to absorb fat, so you can eat what you like without the caloric consequence.

On the other hand, Fat Blockers are not 100% effective, so although they reduce the damage, they don’t completely keep away the calories. Fat blockers typically interfere with your body’s digestion, so expect side effects such as bloating, constipation, and gas as a result.

Detoxifiers: You may have heard that an all-natural cleanse can rid the body of harmful toxins and give you a fresh start while boosting your metabolism, and surprisingly, these cleanses can result in a rapid drop on the scale.

Sadly, these results are only temporary and the weight loss is in water, not fat (which can be regained easily). Detoxifiers generally rely on diuretics and fiber to supposedly flush the body of excess waste. However, this increases your risk of dehydration, in addition to side effects such as diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and irritability.

Before you sign up for that oh-so-tempting offer, take a moment to do a little research on the product. Ask yourself a few of the following questions: Are the side-effects worth it? Have other consumers tried this product before, and if so, what were their results? Does that free trial offer loop you into an expensive auto-ship program? Is there a money-back guarantee?

Although diet pills may seem like the easy way to success, finding a quality supplement may be just as difficult as spending the extra time it takes to eat right and exercise. Take time to think before you click, or you may just wind up with a headache and an empty wallet.
